Loving my new crampons outside of the Oboz Yellowstone II!
I stumbled onto this mid hiking boot in REI I asked to look at another boot but they were out so the clerk brought this beauty out. My life in the outdoors has been much more comfortable since.
This boot has been everywhere with me, from Zion’s National park to Kings Peak(Utah’s highest peak at 13,528 ft). The body is full nubuck leather in an attractive smoke color. It also contains Oboz BDry membrane that has kept me dry since day one. The sawtooth sole great as well. The tread is great with lugs where you want them and cut out excess rubber to reduce the weight.
Every time I am at REI in the shoe section I always tell people how much I have loved them. I saw one guy buy them after I mentioned it to him (your welcome REI).
Oboz just came out with a new hiking/backpacking boot called the Beartooth and it looks awesome I can’t wait to try it out, I will write up a full review when I get them.
Growing up I always loved the outdoors. From scouting, to going hiking with my family. One of our families favorite vacations was going camping with our giant 8 man spring-bar tent.
Beginning in the spring of 2010 I caught the hiking fever. I probably bagged a dozen or so peaks, including Kings peak, that year up until winter. Normally I love skiing, but at this point the snow was just keeping me from my newly rekindled love of hiking. I did not yet have the proper gear to allow me to keep going in the winter.
This year I am ready for winter. Here is a rundown of my gear I am using:
- One long sleeve and one short sleeve athletic shirts. (I am tempted to switch to the method CFS just posted)
- REI ACME pants
- Oboz Yellowstone II boots(awesome boot)
- Black Diamond soft shell
- First Ascent Guide jacket
- Petzel snow walker ice axe
- C.A.M.P Stalker crampons
This Saturday I hiked Mt. Olympus. It was nice to get above the smog in SLC. More on this hike later.
This first post is just a quick overview on what I plan on making this blog about. If any of what I plan on talking about feel free to follow my journey in the mountains.
I plan on posting about:
- My hikes and adventures. (Mostly in the Wasatch Range)
- Talking about gear and outdoor tech.
- Anything else related to hiking/camping.
